Where Are My Microsoft Teams Recordings Saved? – Technipages

Microsoft recently implemented a series of changes regarding the location of your Teams meeting recordings. Up until January 2021, Teams automatically saved meeting recordings to Microsoft Stream. But that’s no longer the case.

Where Do Microsoft Teams Store Recordings?

As of Q1 of 2021, all-new Microsoft Teams meeting recordings are saved to OneDrive for Business and SharePoint. Channel recordings are stored in SharePoint, while non-channel meetings are stored in OneDrive.

However, organizations can delay the change until July 2021 by modifying the Meeting policies and setting MS Stream as the default recording location. After July 2021, all Teams users, including Enterprise, Education, and GCC, will automatically have meeting recordings saved to OneDrive for Business and SharePoint. This is an automatic change that will override all Teams’ meeting recording policies previously set to Stream.

How to Find the Meeting Recordings

If you want to find a specific channel meeting recording, go to the Files tab of that channel and open the Recordings folder.teams channel recordings

On the other hand, Teams stores the recordings of non-channel meetings in the OneDrive directory of the user who started the recording. Go to the respective OneDrive directory and open the Recordings folder to access the meeting recordings.

It is worth mentioning that only two persons will be able to edit the recordings: the meeting organizer and the user who started the recording. The good news is that all the meeting attendees will be able to view the recording.

Important Notes

  • The meeting recording feature doesn’t capture whiteboards and shared notes. That’s why you may not see these items in the recording.
  • Teams will continue the recording even after the user who initially launched it has left the meeting. The app automatically stops the recording after everyone has left the meeting.
  • Teams won’t start the recording in some organizations until you get everyone’s permission to record the meeting.

As of January 2021, Microsoft Teams automatically stores new meeting recordings to OneDrive for Business and SharePoint instead of Stream. Users can opt to delay the change until July 2021. But after that date, Teams will save all the meeting recordings to OneDrive for Business and SharePoint.
