WhatsApp Limits Message Forwarding Feature.

One of the main focus of WhatsApp is to create a secure environment for people to connect with family and friends. With the rolling out of End-to-End Encryption feature, WhatsApp made all it’s users calls and messages very secure.

But with billions of people using WhatsApp on a regular basic and also the introduction of the message forwarding feature, more and more people are reporting to WhatsApp and their platform is being used as a hub for sharing misleading information.
It is because of this fact that WhatsApp decided to implement some limitations to the message forwarding feature of the app.

The Limit

Starting from April 7, 2020, any message that was forwarded to you, if you want to forward that message again, you can only forward it to one chat (either contact or group) at a time.

Precedent

This limit of the message forwarding feature in WhatsApp is not without precedent.

Two year ago (that is 2018) WhatsApp imposed a rule that users could only forward messages to five chats at a time. This was in response to a sudden increase in mob lynching (that is executing people without a legal trial) which was reported that is by WhatsApp allowing it’s users to viral spread misinformation.

Now in response to the spread of misleading information about COVID-19 in WhatsApp, they have imposed another rule that if you were among the 5 people a message was originally shared to, then you can only share that same message to just 1 recipient at a time.
