Verizon 5G comes to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 – Technipages

[ad_1]

Back in October, Verizon opened the floodgates for its Nationwide 5G Network, which was announced alongside the iPhone 12 lineup. This is a bit different from the 5G Ultra Wideband coverage, also known as mmWave that you may have seen mentioned a few times. Instead, Verizon’s Nationwide 5G network takes advantage of a low-band spectrum, which cover longer distances than the mmWave variant.

Now that the flip has been switched, Verizon’s 5G network is now available in more than 1,800 cities across the U.S. Since the launch of the new network, Verizon has been pushing updates to compatible devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

5G Update Galaxy Z Fold 2

Owners of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 from Verizon have seen an update arrive, which brings a few things along with it. In addition to activating 5G compatibility, the software version is bumped to F916USQU1BTJB. This features a release date of 11/10/2020, and also features the October 2020 Android Security Patch.

One interesting aspect of this update is that when looking at the support page, Verizon has ‘System Update 1’ listed. We are wondering if this is just the first stage of a bigger rollout of updates to bring 5G to owners of the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

How to check for an update

Before updating your Galaxy Z Fold 2, there are a couple of pre-requisites that have to be met first:

  • The battery level is at least 40% if not charging.
  • A battery level of at least 20% if charging.

Out of the box, you may find that a notification pops up after the phone is set up, prompting you to install the latest software update. However, if you don’t have that first notification and want to check for an update yourself, here’s how to do it.

  1. Open the Settings app on your Z Fold 2.
  2. Scroll down and tap System Updates.
  3. Tap Check for system updates at the top.
  4. If an update is available, tap Download.
  5. Once the update has downloaded, tap the Install Now button.
