The viking-themed survival game Valheim has taken the PC gaming world by storm as of late, and if you’re a console player, you’re probably wondering when you’ll be able to get in on the action. Here’s a look at everything we know about the possibility of Valheim coming to consoles like Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One devices, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
Is Valheim coming to console?
Since Valheim is such a popular game, it would be well-received if the developers at Iron Gate Studio were actively working on bringing the game to console. Alas, as of right now, the developers have confirmed in an official FAQ that for the time being, there are no plans to bring Valheim to platforms beyond PC. This means that Valheim could potentially never see the light of day on new systems like the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5.
It’s important to note, however, that Valheim is a very easy game to run, and there’s a good chance that you’ll be able to play it smoothly on a PC you’ve purchased in the last several years. Make sure to check out our guide to Valheim’s system requirements if you want to see if your system can play the game. Notably, Valheim has controller support, so console players can use their favorite controller for Valheim on PC if they want.
Could Valheim come to Xbox and PlayStation in the future?
While there aren’t currently plans to bring Valheim to consoles, players shouldn’t lose hope that there will be such plans in the future. The developers said in their FAQ that while there aren’t any plans right now, they also aren’t ruling out console releases down the line. This likely means that Iron Gate Studio will consider bringing the game to the consoles once it exits Early Access on PC and releases fully.
On the game’s Steam page, the developers anticipate that the game’s Early Access tenure will last for at least a year, so if you’re an Xbox or PlayStation player, you can probably expect to hear more about Valheim on consoles in 2022. If the Early Access period runs longer than expected, you might have to wait until 2023. Ultimately, only time will tell.
Valheim Xbox One, PS4 release date
With Valheim yet to see Xbox and PlayStation versions developed, it’ll be some time until we get a release date for either platform, if ever. The studio remains focused on delivering its full version right now, completing the game throughout early access, which suggests more platforms will be far out. If console versions happen, we’re not expecting anything until 2022 or potentially 2023.
If you’ve got a decent PC, we highly recommend checking Valheim out since it’s one of the best survival games for PC out there right now. It’s available for $20 on Steam. If you do decide to pick the game up, make sure to check out our beginner’s guide to your first days and beyond in Valheim.
