We’ve started seeing users on Twitter and Reddit report that the latest update for Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds allows the game to run at 60 FPS. After seeing these reports, we’ve tested the game and can confirm that with this latest update, The Outer Worlds runs at 60 FPS (or close to it) on Xbox Series X and PS5. At the moment of this being written, we’re not sure if this also applies for Xbox Series S. The update is about 26 GB in size.
Back in 2020 when discussing the Peril on Gorgon DLC, Obsidian Entertainment revealed that The Outer Worlds would be optimized for Xbox Series X at some point in the future. It’s currently unclear if Obsidian has foregone doing a dedicated next-generation patch or if this is simply the first step.
The next expansion for The Outer Worlds is called Murder on Eridanos and is set to arrive on March 17. Players will have to solve mysterious crimes, while the list of science weapons in The Outer Worlds continues to grow.
