The new iOS14 for iPhone is one you Will Love.

There are several reasons why the iOS14 update which is set to be released sometime in September is one that will get many iPhone users excited. Before I start to explain the new features and updates coming to iPhones due to the iOS14 release, let me first answer the question, will I be needing a new iPhone before I can use the newly released iOS14?

You do not Need a new iPhone

While it is rumored that the new iOS14 will give us insight to the new features Apple is planning for iPhone 12, the fact is, Apple have not yet made any announcement as to when iPhone 12 will be launched.

Hence, we should not expect that it is the iPhone 12 that will be the first device to get the iOS 14 updates. Here are existing iPhones that will be eligible for the iOS 14 update:

  • iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR, iPhone X
  • iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE (1st generation), iPhone SE (2nd generation)
  • iPod touch (7th generation)

with this list, we can say that, all iPhone currently running iOS 13, or all from 2015 (iPhone 6S) upwards will be eligible to upgraded to iOS 14.

Now let’s talk about the amazing features.

Home Screen Widget

The most prominent feature in the iOS 14 update is the Home Screen Widget. This is because, virtually all Apple’s home screen widget has been redesigned to make it more beautiful and data rich.

Speaking about data-rich widget, in iOS 14, you will not only have control over what widget should appear in the home screen, you also have control over how much data you want to widget to display and the size of the widget.

Personally, I am looking forward to the widget stack feature. The widget stack feature allows you to stack up to 10 widgets on top each other. This is so cool because with it, you will have more room in the home screen of your iPhone. To access the content of each widget that are stacked, you will need to swipe through them.

Siri now has a suggestions widget. Base on your phone usage routine, Siri will use the suggestions widget to notify you when you need to do something, like ordering a coffee, and others.

Compartmentalization

Big word, right?

What am trying to say is, previously, when you receive a Phone or FaceTime call, the notification appears as full screen. Now, with iOS 14, it appears as a banner on top of your screen! So, you will no longer be forced to pause what you are doing to answer or reject the call. All you need to do when you see the call notification banner is to swipe it up to reject or swipe it down to accept the call.

iOS 14 as a Picture in Picture feature that allows you watch a video or take a FaceTime call while still using other apps. The video or FaceTime call will appear as a thumbnail at the top-right corner. You can resize the size of the picture in picture windows, and you can move it to any location on your iPhone screen. So, it must not be at the top-right.

Still on the Compact UI, Siri also has her own all-new compact design. In that, when you call on Siri, it pops up at the bottom of the screen, and when she has a result for you, she displays it as a notification.

Siri

Leaving the compart design of Siri for a moment, this virtual assistant can now be used to send voice messages, and also because Siri will now be able to find answers to your questions using the web, Apple says ‘Siri has over 20x more facts than just three years ago.’

Siri can now speak French, German, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese, in addition to English (Australia, India, Ireland, South Africa, UK, and U.S.). Siri can now translate to over 65 other languages.

You can also be able to use Siri to share your ETA with friends when using Apple Maps and you can ask Siri for cycling directions.

Messages

iOS 14 give iPhone users the ability to pin up to 9 conversations to the top of the conversation list in Messages. This new OS update also have Inline reply feature which will enable you to reply to specific message in a group conversation, and a Mention feature that you can use to mention the name of the person you are directing your message to in a group chat.

You can also set an image for your group conversation using a photo, emoji, or Memoji,

Speaking on Memoji. There are 10 hairstyles and 18 new headwear styles and 6 new age options for customizing how your Memoji should look. You can also customize the facial and muscle structure of your Memoji, wear them a face covering, or use them to send a hug, a fist bump, or even a blush to your friends.

App Library

When you upgrade to iOS 14, there will be a new section at the bottom of your iPhone home screen called App Library.

The App Library automatically organizes all of your apps into categories which makes it easy to navigate. It also has a search feature, and a list view which can use accessed by clicking on the search bar. App Library also host App Clip.

App Clip is a new feature that enables you to use some features of an app which you have not installed on your iPhone.

CarPlay

Apart from being able to connect your iPhone to your smart car via CarPlay and use audio, messaging, or VoIP apps. CarPlay now supports third-party parking, EV charging, and quick food-ordering apps.

Apple also said that with the new CarPlay coming out on iOS 14, users will be able to save digital keys that will enable them to unlock and turn on their car through your iPhone.

To use this feature, Apple said: “keep a digital car key in your Wallet app so you can leave your physical car keys at home. Just bring your iPhone near your car door to unlock. Once inside, place your iPhone on a reader or wireless charger to start your car. This feature works with Apple Watch, too.”
