Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 8nm 5G officially announced with support for up to 120Hz displays, 8nm process technology, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology and it is the first 4-series 5G mobile platform chipset from the company.
The new Snapdragon 480 5G SoC will power a budgeted and affordable mobile handset that runs Android OS. It arrives with 2×2 Wi-Fi 6 capabilities, 2×2 Wi-Fi 6-ready, and Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF System.
The Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF System is for 5G coverage and comes with Wi-Fi 6 and integrated Bluetooth 5.1 with advanced audio via the Qualcomm FastConnect 6200.
It also supports Dual-Frequency (L1 and L5) GNSS to improve location positioning accuracy and robustness, supports Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC).
When it comes to comparison to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 processor, the Snapdragon 480 8nm 5G comes with a 70% AI performance boost with the latest Qualcomm AI Engine, – Qualcomm Hexagon 686 chipset.
While the Qualcomm Kryo 460 CPU performance cores based on the Cortex-A76 clocked at 2.0GHz and Qualcomm Adreno 619 GPU for up to 100% performance improvement in CPU and GPU.
It is based on 8nm process technology, features 2x Kryo 540 Prime CPU (A76-based) at up to 2GHz, and 6x Kryo 560 Efficiency CPUs (A55-based) at up to 1.8GHz. It uses eMMC, UFS 2.2, LPDDR4x 2133MHz, 2x16bit memory and USB-C.
The Snapdragon 480 SoC is supported by the Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology, it supports up to 25MP + 13MP dual camera, up to 64MP single camera, and uses Qualcomm Spectra 345 Image Sensor Processor (14-bit triple-ISP).
It can take 1080p single video capture @ 60 FPS, 1080p Dual Video Capture @ 30 FPS, 720p Triple Video Capture @ 30 FPS, and comes with slow motion video capture 720p @ 120 FPS.
The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 8nm 5G will finally make its way to affordable 5G phones sometime in Q1 2021. The OEMs/ODMs expected to announce these smartphones include Vivo, HMD Global, Oppo, Xiaomi, and Motorola.
