Slack: How To Require an Admin To Approve an Invite To the Workspace – Technipages

While it can be pretty convenient to have the option to allow pretty much anybody to invite new team members to your workspace, this isn’t always appropriate. In a business environment, for example, you may not want all of your employees to be able to invite people to join your corporate workspace.

You may want to restrict permissions so only team leaders or HR members can add new employees to the workspace. In workspaces designed primarily for a group of friends or for a small tight-knit community, you may just want to keep a close eye on who’s in your space, Slack’s ability to restrict new joiners to admin approval is a pretty powerful feature. Here’s how to restrict the ability to invite people to your workspace.

To require workspace administrators to approve any invite to the workspace you need to go into the workspace permissions settings. To get there, you first need to click on the workspace name in the top-right corner. Next, in the dropdown menu, select “Settings & administration”, then “Workspace settings” to open the workspace settings in a new tab.

To get to the workspace settings, click on the workspace name in the sidebar, then select “Settings & administration” and “Workspace settings”.

Switch to the “Permissions” tab at the top of the page, then click on the “Expand” button for the “Invitations” permissions.

Click “Expand” next to “Invitations” in the “Permissions” tab.

To prevent everyone from just being able to send invitations to whoever they want, whenever they want, and instead require administrator approval for any workspace invitation, tick the checkbox labelled “Require admin approval”. Click “Save” to apply the change.

Tick the checkbox labelled “Require admin approval” in the “Invitations” section of the “Privacy” tab.

Generally, the ability for any member to be able to invite new members to the workspace is a good idea. In some situations, such as for corporate workspaces, you may want to restrict this ability to admins. By following the steps in this guide, you can configure your workspace so all invitations to join the workspace need to be approved by an admin.
