Slack: How To Configure Your Status – Technipages

Throughout the day you may be in different moods or listening to different music and want to share but without making a post. Many communication apps allow you to configure a status that other users can see if they look for them.

Slack allows you to configure your status too, to be able to do so, you need to click on your profile picture, in the top-right corner, then click “Update your status”.

In the “Set a status” popup you can choose to manually configure a status or select a pre-defined one. Each status includes a written status and a duration, you can also optionally include an emoji. Each server has up to five status’ that they can define. These server status’ default to “In a meeting” for an hour, “Commuting” for thirty minutes, “Out sick” for the day, “Vacationing” until cleared, and “Working remotely” for the day.

Slack also includes calendar integrations with Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar, which can then automatically set your status to “In a meeting” during your scheduled meetings.

To select a server status, just click on it, then click “Save”. To enable the Google or Outlook calendar status integrations, click on them, then follow the integration instructions. To configure a custom status, simply start typing in the “What’s your status?” box.

Select a pre-defined status from your server or enter a custom one.

Once you’ve selected a pre-configured status or have typed your own custom status, the popup will change a bit. If you want to change the duration of your status, click the “Clear after” dropdown box and configure when you want your status to expire.

Finally, if you want to include an emoji with your status, click on the emoji to the immediate left of your status to open the emoji picker, then find the emoji you want to use. Once you’re happy with your status, click “Save” to apply it.

Configure the duration of your status, add an emoji, then click “Save”.
