Microsoft Teams: New Chat Messages Not Showing Up – Technipages

Microsoft Teams may sometimes need more time to handle chat messages. When such issues occur, the service may take longer than expected to deliver new chat messages. Occasionally, an error message may also pop-up, such as these ones:

  • We had some trouble getting your chats.
  • We’re having trouble updating your messages.

Fix Microsoft Teams Chat Not Working

⇒ Quick Tip: Check Your Connection. Make sure this is not a network problem. Restart your modem if necessary. Or use a different network such as a mobile hotspot.

Additionally, check the Office 365 Service Status to see if there are any known issues that could be preventing you from using the Teams chat.

Log Out and Restart Your Device

Try performing a full logout followed by a full login. This will reset your connection to the Microsoft Teams servers. Sign out of your Teams account and restart your computer. Then log back in and check if the chat area is fully functional.

Try a Different Teams Version

The chat problem usually affects computer users. If the chat messages are not showing up on the desktop client, check if they’re available on the web. Additionally, if you also installed the mobile app, check if the conversations are visible on your phone or tablet.

Clear the Cache

Clearing the cache solved this issue for many users. By removing the cache, you basically remove temporary Teams files that might be interfering or conflicting with your current Teams session.

  1. Close Microsoft Teams.
  2. Type %AppData%Microsoftteams in the Windows Search bar.

    • %AppData%Microsoftteamsgpucache
    • %AppData%MicrosoftteamsIndexeddb
    • %AppData%MicrosoftteamsLocal Storage
    • %AppData%Microsoftteamstmp
  5. If you also used the web version of Teams, clear your browser cache as well.

Speaking of clearing the cache, run Disk Cleanup as well. In other words, make sure to clear all your temporary Internet files.

  1. Type disk cleanup in the Windows search bar.
  2. Then select the drive where you installed your OS and Teams.
  3. Clear Temporary Internet Files. Hit the OK button. disk cleanup temporary internet files

After you did all that, restart your computer. Launch Teams again and check if the chat messaging issue has been solved.
