It’s a well-known fact that regular Windows users aren’t crazy about updates. Thus, it makes sense that Microsoft has decided to prioritize pushing the Windows 10 20H2 update to those who check for updates manually.
We will refer to this type of users as seekers. The other, non-manual checkers will be regular users.
At the beginning of the Windows 10 20H2 rollout process, only users who were curious enough to hit that Check for updates button were eligible to receive the new Windows 10 version.
Now it seems that not even performing the check manually will bring you the goods, and Microsoft explains why.
Current status as of October 20, 2020
Windows 10, version 20H2 is available for users with devices running Windows 10, versions 1903 and higher who manually seek to “Check for updates” via Windows Update. The recommended servicing status is Semi-Annual Channel.
Note We are slowly throttling up availability over the coming weeks to ensure a reliable download experience. As a result, the update may not be offered to you right away. For more details, see How to get the Windows 10 October 2020 Update.
Compatibility issues draw safeguard holds
Microsoft has published a list of safeguard holds that they enforce to prevent any compatibility issues. Certain users have already complained about compatibility issues with the new October update, so Microsoft started to investigate.
Apparently, the issues are so severe that users may experience errors or even sudden system crashes (BSOD).
You can check the list of safeguard holds and see if your device is at least compatible with Windows 10 20H2.
If your device is eligible, you may try your luck with getting the Windows 10 20H2 update on your system.
