Microsoft rolls out firmware updates for Surface Laptop 1 & 2

What you need to know

  • Microsoft’s Surface Laptop and Surface Laptop 2 recently received firmware updates.
  • The updates include several security updates and bug fixes.

Microsoft’s Surface Laptop and Surface Laptop 2 each have a firmware update available. As is normally the case, the updates don’t include any new features but have several improvements and bug fixes.

People with the original Surface Laptop will see the following changes:

Device Manager Name Version and Update
Intel HD Graphics – Display adapters 27.20.100.8682 – Improves graphics and system stability.
Intel ICLS Client – Extension 1952.14.0.1470 – Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
Intel ICLS Client – Software devices 1.62.321.1 – Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
Intel Management Engine Interface – System devices 2040.100.0.1029 – Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
Surface ME – Firmware 11.8.82.3838 – Addresses security updates and improves system stability.

The changes for the Surface Laptop 2 are mostly the same, though the version number of the first change is different, and you’ll also receive one more change:

Intel Display Graphics Adapter Driver – Extension 27.20.100.8681 – Addresses security updates and improves system stability.

You should be able to grab the latest firmware update through Windows Update now.
