Linux Mint: How to Add a Custom Account Image – Technipages

One of the ways to make your account stand out on a Linux Mint computer with many users is to add an account picture. Linux Mint comes with a range of pre-installed account images to choose from; however, you can also choose to use your own custom image if you prefer.

To configure your account image, you need to browse to the account details settings. To access the account details settings, press the Super key, then type “Account details” and hit enter.

Tip: The “Super” key is the name that many Linux distributions use to refer to the Windows key or the Apple “Command” key, while avoiding any risk of trademark issues.

Press the Super key, then type “Account details” and hit enter.

Once in the account details settings page, click on the current account image in the top-right corner. Here you can select a pre-set account image from the suggested list, or add a custom image by clicking “Browse for more pictures” at the bottom of the list.

Tip: Profile pictures are displayed in a square box, so square images will work best. If you pick a landscape or portrait image, it will be set to fill the box in its widest dimension.

Click on the current account image, then select an existing image, or click “Browse for more pictures”.

Once you’ve selected an image from your hard-drive it will appear in the account image box. If you decide that you don’t like how it looks, you can change it by clicking on it again and selecting “Browse for more pictures” once more.

Unfortunately, you’re not able to crop or change the scaling of the image once it’s set. If you want to just use part of a picture, you will have to edit it with a photo editing tool, then set the edited version as your profile image. If you don’t have a photo editor installed, GIMP is a free and open-source photo editing tool with a broad feature set.
