How to Regain Lost Local U.S. TV Stations post thumbnail

Many US citizens that do not yet have enough money to pay for cable TV subscription and as a result are still using antenna to get free local over-the-air TV are complaining that their TV stations are no longer showing.

This is not because your antenna is bad.

Rather, it is because since December 2019, some local TV stations across U.S. will be changing their broadcast frequencies.

So, any TV station that you notice is no longer showing, it means that they have changed their broadcast frequency.

What to do to Get it Back

To get back your lost TV stations back, all you need to do is to perform a TV rescan.

Rescanning your TV is the same with what you did the first time you install the new antenna, before it starts showing you the local stations.

However, if you have forgetting what you did, just get your TV remote, locate the Menu or Setup button on the remote and press it. Then follow the on-screen instruction to rescan your TV.

But if you are still have still not seeing your favorite TV station after you have rescanned or if you need assistance with rescanning your TV, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has indicated a willingness to help.

So, you can give them a toll-free call by dialing 1-888-CALLFCC (1-888-225-5322) and pressing “6” to speak to a help desk representative.

The FCC call center is help desk representative is available from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Eastern time, seven days a week.

Why the Change

In the post where I learnt about FCC willingness to assist you, they said that the change in broadcast frequencies that most U.S. local TV station is undergoing is necessary so that airwaves for new high-speed wireless services can be opened up.

What will not Change

While the broadcast frequency for your favorite TV station will change, after your TV rescan and you have gain them back, your Station will not change and their channel number will not also change.

Added Incentive

For those rescanning their TV for the first time after several year, FCC says “you might be surprised at how many stations are not available.”

So, whether your favorite TV station is changing their broadcast frequency or not, you are encouraged to rescan your TV.

The Frequency Change will end

The change in broadcasting frequency that most local TV station is undergoing will not go on forever.

It will end in July 2020.
