How to automatically transfer your iCloud Photo Library to Google Photos

Earlier this month, Apple officially rolls out a new tool that lets you automatically transfer your iCloud Photo Library to Google Photos in some areas such as the US, the UK, and others.

Trying to switch from iOS to Android is slightly complicated, but Apple is helping to make the photo library switch a little bit easier. Apple added a service that lets you automatically transfer photos, videos, and albums from your iCloud Photo Library to Google Photos.

Yea, as you all know or assumed, Apple says the transfer will take between three days to a week. Apple also pointed out that some things can’t be transferred: shared albums, smart albums, photo stream content, some metadata, and media that isn’t stored in your iCloud Photo Library.

Another major disadvantage is that you can’t transfer Live Photos, and iPhones take Live Photos by default, given that 3 out of 10 photos are Live Photos. However, the company did mention if the transfer will leave the pictures or the video clip around the photo.

Before you proceed, understand and know that the feature has a support document outlining the procedure, which simply entails going to privacy.apple.com, logging in, and going through the “transfer a copy of your data” process.

The new tool will help users easily transfer photos from iPhone to Android, and you can make use of the tool from the comfort of your home, it is simple:

1. Sign in with your Apple ID at privacy.apple.com

2. Select the option to transfer a copy of your data.

3. Follow the prompts to complete your request.

4. You will then be asked to sign in to your Google account to start the transfer.

Similar to other Apple service that usually takes time, Apple will also send you an email update when the transfer begins, and another email update when the transfer is completed. Anyways, you can still check the status of your request at privacy.apple.com/account.

Note that your transfer requests will ultimately be successful if your Apple uses two-factor authentication, you are using iCloud Photos to store your media, a Google account to use Google Photos, and when your Google account has enough storage available to complete the transfer.

Have it in mind that this new feature won’t remove anything from your iCloud Photo Library, it will simply make a copy of it, and if you need to delete any of the photos or videos when you no longer want them stored in iCloud then you’ll still need to do it manually delete.

The feature is currently only available to people in Australia, Canada, the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and we expect it to expand to other regions soon.
