How to Access the Firefox Task Manager – Technipages

You try to keep your computer in the best possible shape, but there’s always going to be something that’s going to misbehave. If you’re not sure what’s affecting your computer’s performance, you can always check Firefox’s task manager.

Thanks to the task manager, you can see which extensions and tabs are using the most energy or memory; after that, you can decide to disable the tab or extension that’s consuming too much memory or CPU usage.

How to Open the Firefox Task Manager

To access the Firefox task manager, click on the menu line at the top right. Click on the more option located at the bottom and the task manager.

Click on the Memory or Energy Impact header and the tabs will be organized into which ones use the most to least amount of resources.

The task manager is separated into different columns, such as:

  • Name – Shows you the name of the extension or tab
  • Type – Shows you if it’s a tab or an add-on.
  • Energy Impact – How much impact that item is having on your computer. If the label is high, that could explain why you’re suffering from poor system performance.
  • Memory – Here, you’ll see how much memory a certain item is using.

Placing the cursor over the name of the task shows you how many dispatches that item has. It may not always be the case, but if you see an arrow behind the name, you can click on it if you want to access trackers and subframes. If you see a tab you want to close, you can do the traditional way or click on the X in the task manager.

Conclusion

The Firefox task manager is a great way to see what tabs and add-ons are using too much of your computer’s resources without installing any additional software. How often do you use it?
