For years after the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft forced the new operating system version down the throat of Windows 7 and Windows 8 users.
Leading many users to upgrade their computer to Windows 10 while they were not yet ready for the upgrade.
Well, Microsoft is no longer forcing Windows 7 and 8 users to upgrade to Windows 10. But their constant reminders that support for Windows 7 and 8 has stopped, and that to continue receiving updates, you need to upgrade to Windows 10, can make anyone, feel persuaded to join the Windows 10 family.
If you really do not want to upgrade to Windows 10 for now, and you do not want to keep getting those reminders, GWX Control Panel utility is all that you need. The GWX tool will block all of such notifications, and it will even go further to scan your drive, so as to ensure that Microsoft is not secretly downloading Windows 10 files into your computer bit-by-bit.
GWX Control Panel Download Link
There are 2 versions of the GXW Control Panel utility. The first is a stand-alone version which you can download from >>> HERE <<<
The second is an installer version which you can also download from >>> HERE <<<
The main difference between the stand-alone and the installer version is that. The earlier does not require you to install the program, but for it to function, you must not delete the downloaded file. But with the installer, you will be required to install it into your computer. After which, you can delete the downloaded installer file.
How to use GWX Control Panel
After you have downloaded and install the GWX Control Panel to your computer, open it. Remember, if it is the Stand-alone version you downloaded, you do not need to install anything, just move it to a secure folder (because that will be it home), then, double-click on it to open.
Once the GWX Control Panel opens, you will see a user interface similar to the one below.
If you see YES to any option in the up section of the GWX Control Panel, it means that your Windows 7 or Windows 8 computer is not safe from Windows 10. If all the options are NO, then it means your computer is safe.
To keep your computer safe from automatic Windows 10 upgrade download or notifications, click on the following buttons which are at the down section of the GWX Control Panel user interface.
- Click the Click to Disable ‘Get Windows 10’ App button.
- Click the Click to Prevent Windows 10 Upgrades button.
- If you’re a completist, click the Click to Disable Non-critical Windows 10 Settings button.
If from the top section GWX Control Panel says that it found a Windows 10 download folder, it means that Microsoft have been secretly downloading the Windows 10 into your computer (though this is rare). But if that is the case, do the following:
- Click the Click to Delete Windows 10 Download Folders button and
- Click the click to Delete Windows 10 Programs button
Doing this will ensure that there is no trace of Windows 10 in your Windows 7 and Windows 8 computer.
Here are 2 tutorial videos from the GWX Control Panel developers that you can watch if you do not understand my explanations above.
Not New to GWX Control Panel?
The GWX Control Panel have been around for almost half a decade now, that is, since 2015. And many of you who have been using the GWX utility to keep your machine safe from Windows 10 might be wondering, is it time to uninstall the GWX Control Panel from my computer?
Well, the simple answer is, it is based on how well you trust Microsoft.
While Microsoft has stopped forcing Windows 10 into the machine of Windows 7 and Windows 8 users, by secretly downloading Windows 10 files, I cannot say that they will not resort to continuing that action in the future.
So, if you trust Microsoft that much, then you can remove GWX Control Panel from your computer. But if you do not, then leave it the way it is.
However, you should know that GWX Control Panel is a lightweight program and thus it does not consume your computer processing power (computer resources), if that is the reason why you are asking.
Should I Upgrade to Windows 10?
There is no simple answer. But the fact is, it all depends on what is preventing you from upgrading at the first place.
When you upgrade to Windows 10, you do not need to pay for a new license, provided you have a valid license with your Windows 7 or Windows 8 computer, you can use it with the newly installed Windows 10.
The fact that Windows 10 is known to have bug is no longer a news. But that should not discourage you from upgrading.
There is virtually not programs or operating systems that is free from bugs. What matters, it the developers willingness and promptness if fixing those bugs, when discovered. And Microsoft as shown that they are up to the task.
If you are still sticking to Windows 7 or Windows 8 because most or some of your favorites programs are not compatible with Windows 10, then Microsoft cannot help you with that.
Contact the developer of the program if you can, and ginger them into making their program compatible with Windows 10. If the developer has a forum, you can also post your request so that it will attracts the support of more users.
But truth be told. It is only programs that have been abandoned by it developer that still does not support Windows 10.
