FIX: Your browser does not support Java

Quick tip:

If you’re getting an error message that says Your Browser does not support Java, perhaps you should consider switching to a different web browser.

How can I fix Your browser does not support Java error?

1. Add the IE Tab extension to your browser

  1. Open the IE Tab extension page in a Chromium-based browser.
  2. Click the Add to Chrome (or Opera) button on that page.
  3. Select the Add extension option to confirm.
  4. Next, click on the IE Tab extension button shown directly below. An ietabhelper.exe will download when you click that button.

  5. Double-click the ietabhelper.exe and select Run to complete the IE Tab extension installation.
  6. Thereafter, you can click the IE Tab button to open a page with the Internet Explorer rendering engine. Click that extension button for webpages the Java support error arises for.

2. Enable Internet Explorer mode for Edge

  1. Click the Setting and more menu button in Edge.
  2. Select the Settings option to open that tab.
  3. Click Default browser on the left side of the tab.

  4. Select Always on the Let Internet Explorer open sites in Edge drop-down menu.
  5. Turn on the Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode option.
  6. Click the Restart button in Microsoft Edge.

3. Reinstall Java

  1. Open the Uninstall Java Versions webpage in a browser.
  2. Click the I Agree to the Terms and Want to Continue button on that page to download the Java Uninstall Tool.

  3. Open the Java Uninstall Tool’s window.
  4. Select the Agree option.
  5. Next, select a listed Java version.
  6. Press the Next button to uninstall the selected Java version.
  7. Restart Windows after uninstalling Java.
  8. Thereafter, click Java Download on the Java website.
  9. Click the Agree and Start Free Download button.
  10. Then open the downloaded Java installer to reinstall the latest Java.

4. Make sure Java is enabled and lower trusted site security

  1. Click Internet Explorer’s Tools menu button.
  2. Then select Internet Options to open that window.
  3. Select the Security tab on the Internet Properties window. 
  4. Press the Custom level button.
  5. Then scroll down to the Scripting of Java applets setting shown directly below.

  6. Select Enable if that setting is disabled.
  7. Select the OK option to apply the new setting.
  8. Click Trusted sites on the Security tab.
  9. Reduce the Allowed levels for this zone bar to Low.

  11. Enter the URLs for the webpage the Java not supported error arises to, and click the Add button.
  12. Click Close to exit the Trusted site window.
  13. Select the Apply option.

Once you make these changes, check if Your browser does not support Java message is still there.

5. Check TLS 1.1 and FLS 1.2 are enabled

  1. Open the Internet Properties window as outlined for steps one and two of the third resolution.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.

  3. Select the Use TLS 1.1 and Use TLS 1.2 checkboxes if they’re not selected.
  4. Press the Apply button to save settings.
  5. Click OK to exit the window.
  6. Note: Also check that TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are enabled within the Java Control Panel.

6. Check Java browser content is enabled within the Java Control Panel

  1. Press the Type here to search button on the far left of the Windows 10 taskbar.
  2. Enter Control Panel in the Type here to search box.
  3. Click Control Panel to open its window.

  4. Then click Programs within the Control Panel.
  5. Click Java (32-bit) to open the Java Control Panel.
  6. Select the Security tab shown directly below.
  7. Select the Enable Java content in the browser checkbox.
  8. Click the High security radio button if Very High is selected.
  9. Add any website page the Java not supported error arises for to the exception site list by clicking Edit Site List.
  10. Press the Apply button to confirm the new settings.

So, that’s how Internet Explorer and non-IE users can feasibly fix the Java not supported browser error. With that error fixed, websites will then run Java applets without any issues.
