Not being able to play your newly installed Overwatch 2 game with the majority of the 35 heroes in the game is very frustrating, especially if you are a steady or old Overwatch player.
While Blizzard have acknowledged this locked heroes issue Overwatch players are experiencing and are working to provide a permanent fix, below is a workaround you can try, before the official fix comes along.
How to fix Overwatch 2 heroes locked for old players
- Restart the game.
If after restarting the game, the heroes are still locked, then do the 2nd option.
- Log out of your Blizzard account and then log back in.
Why These Fix Should Work
Blizzard said that locked heroes but occurs whenever the game mistakenly identifies your account as a new. As a result, the game will want you to go through the Overwatch 2 First-Time User Experience (FTUE) tutorial with limited heroes, before the rest will be unlocked.
By restarting the game, or by logging out and back in to your Blizzard account, you are in effect, resetting the FTUE, telling it to check your account against Blizzard old players database again.
What you should know about the fix
The fix outlined above have resolved the Locked Heroes bug in Overwatch 2 for most old/veteran players. However, there is no guarantee it will work for you.
So, if after implementing the fix above several times and it still does not work for you, then it means you will have to wait for the next Overwatch 2 update, which probably include the official fix for this bug.
