After the May 2020 update of Windows 10, many users have not been able to use their beloved personal digital assistant -Cortana. This is because, when they want to use it, they will get an error, telling them that Cortana is not available in their region.

Well, if you are among those getting this error, and you have been using Cortana before, then you can easily fix this issue by updating the Cortana app from the Microsoft Store.

How to fix Cortana is Not Available Error

There are basically 3 ways in which you can fix the Cortana is not available error. These are:

  • Updating your Cortana app.
  • Updating Windows 10.
  • Check/Change your Language Settings.

How to Update Cortana from Windows 10 Microsoft Store

Launch the Microsoft Store app on your Windows 10 computer, then search for Cortana.

In the search result page, click on the Cortana app result that shows Installed.
Now, in the Cortana page, click on the blue Get button.

As soon as the Cortana app finish updating, the Cortana is not available error will be fixed, and you should now be able to use your beloved Cortana as usual.

How to Update Windows 10

Yes, I know. At the beginning of this post, I said that it was after the May 2020 update of the Windows 10 operating system that the Cortana is not available error started.

The fact is, the cumulative updates that has been released afterwards for Windows 10 includes a fix for the error. So, yes, updating your Windows 10 OS will fix the Cortana is not available error.

To update Windows 10, click on the Update Windows 10 Center button below, and click on the Update button after the settings app opens.

Region and Languages that Cortana is Available in

Cortana is available for Windows 10 in the following region and language.

  • Australia: English
  • Brazil: Portuguese
  • Canada: English/French
  • China: Chinese (Simplified)
  • France: French
  • Germany: German
  • India: English
  • Italy: Italian
  • Japan: Japanese
  • Mexico: Spanish
  • Spain: Spanish
  • United Kingdom: English
  • United States: English

If your Windows 10 computer is using any of this language and region settings, and you are experiencing the Cortana is not available, then following the instruction above about updating either the Cortana app or the Windows 10 operating system should fix the issue.

However, if your Windows 10 computer is not using any of those language and region settings, then it means that Cortana is not actually/really available to you and you will not be able to use. But of course, you can always change your language and region setting in Windows 10.

How to Check/Change your Language Settings in Windows 10

Click on the gear icon on the Start Menu, or press the Windows + I keys on your keyboard to open the Settings app.
Then, select Time & Language, and then click on Language in the left pane.
Alternatively, you can click on the button below to open it.

Now from the Windows display language, check if the language and region option is the same with the one above. If it is not, then click on Add a language button on the Preferred language section.

In the dialog box, type in the language you want and install the one of your choice. Example: Type in English then select English (India) then, click on the Next button below.

Wait for some times for the language pack to be downloaded and install. After which, you change it in the Windows display language box.

Now, in the left pane, click on Region, then change the Country or Region and the Regional Format option accordingly.

Finally, restart your computer and then you should be good.
