Since we’re talking about re-installations, you can as well try to re-install Microsoft Visual C++. You can download it from the Microsoft Oficial webpage.

We advise you to install the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and the one which covers the game release date. So, for example, if your game dates to 2014, make sure to acquire the C++ 2013.

And finally, the last re-installation on our list is the re-installation of DirectX.

The new installation of DirectX will only work if some game is giving you a 0x000007b error message, because as you probably know, DirectX is a crucial feature for running a lot of games.

Sometimes, even though your DirectX installation is up to date, you’ll need to install the one which is provided with the game. Some games require DirectX 9.0c.

Unable to install DirectX in Windows 10? Solve the issue in no time with the help of our guide!

5. Run the installer in the compatibility mode

  1. Right-click on the installation setup file (most of the time it has the EXE extension) and open Properties.
  2. Select the Compatibility tab.
  3. Check the Run this program in compatibility mode for box.
  4. From the drop-down menu, select an older Windows iteration.
  5. Check the Run this program as an administrator box.
  6. Confirm changes and try installing the program again.

This might seem like a long shot but the compatibility issues are far from uncommon on Windows. In order to avoid that, you can run the installer or respective applications in compatibility mode.

This should help you skip some hurdles imposed by the system, especially UAC and its limitations.

6. Run the Troubleshooter

  1. Go to the Settings app.
  2. Head over to Updates & Security > Troubleshooting.
  3. Find Program compatibility troubleshooter and click it.
  4. Now, go to Run the troubleshooter.
  5. Follow further on-screen instructions and let the wizard find any issues.
  6. Restart your computer.

The next thing we’re going to try is Windows 10’s built-in troubleshooting tool. This tool can help you solve various common issues from Windows 10.

7. Run SFC scan

  1. Go to Search, type cmd, and open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  2. Enter the following line and press Enter: sfc/scannow
  3. Wait for the process to finish.
  4. Restart your computer.

If none of the solutions above worked, we’re going to try another troubleshooting tool. The SFC scan is a built-in feature designed to deal with various system problems.

8. Run DISM

  1. Go to Search, type cmd, and open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  2. Enter the following command on the command line:
    • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  3. In case the DISM can’t obtain files online, try using your installation USB or DVD. Insert media and type the following command:
    • DISM.exe/Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
  4. Make sure to replace C:RepairSourceWindows path of your DVD or USB.

DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management Tool ) is another great built-in tool from Windows platform that can be used to repair your Windows OS.

That would be all, I hope that at least one of these many re-installations will help you to solve the problem with error 0x000007b.
