After introducing the disappearing message for Whatsapp, the social network giant, Facebook introduces Vanish Mode for both Messenger and Instagram as a disappearing messages feature.
With the Facebook Vanish Mode on Messenger and Instagram lets, you send disappearing messages. With this new update, users on both platforms can easily send temporary messages to their contacts and it will vanish within a stipulated time limit.
Facebook’s vanish mode was silently copied from Snapchat, after all, it is Snapchat iconic signature feature. With the disappearing message mode coming to Facebook’s instant messaging services, it will surely push out other modded apps.
Actually, this isn’t the first time Facebook will be ripping off its rival features, Snapchat signatures, and installing them on Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Tho, Facebook’s ephemeral messaging attracts younger smartphone users who don’t want to post publicly and risk being haunted by social media posts later on in life. On the other hand, Snapchat ephemeral messaging is with Stories and its DM design and quite popular among US teens.
Facebook vanish mode allows both Facebook Messenger and Instagram users to send texts, photos, voice messages, emoji, and stickers. It will not just disappear immediately once they’re viewed by other parties, but the chat window will also closed.
When compared to Whatsapp disappearing messages, the vanish mode works differently that will delete anything sent forever once it’s been viewed, where Whatsapp’s version is after 7days, and the current Messenger secret conversation mode still saves on the device after entering an end-to-end encrypted chat.
In order to enter, activate or enable disappearing messages and other chat interactions, you can swipe up on a chat window to open and to close it, you can either swipe it down or the turn it off button is located at the top of the chat window.
Before going further, understand that the Facebook vanish mode is only available for one-on-one chats at the moment, and not available for group threads. Unlike Whatsapp’s mode, if a screenshot of the chat is taken, the sender will be notified.
This isn’t quite surprising, as CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced last year that his company would strategically shift away from the News Feed and public posts and more toward private messaging and groups.
Vanish Mode will have to be opted-in by both participants in the chat, allowing two consents at a time. This means other users will have to agree to enter Vanish Mode once another user in the chat has enabled it.
Facebook says you can report individuals over Vanish Mode chat conduct. Note that vanish mode will appear in both apps as a distinct option, so you can turn on and off in the settings of any particular chat message.
Facebook Vanish Mode will start rolling out today starting from the US and will be available for Messenger in other countries starting today. Meanwhile, the Instagram mode will go live in the US today, and other countries will follow suit sooner or later.
