Creating Drive Partition in Windows 10 with AOMEI Partition Assistant post thumbnail

AOMEI Partition Assistant is one of the best free software that you can use to manage your computer’s drive effectively. You can use this Windows 10 application to, clone or backup a partition, increase or decrease the size of a partition, Convert drive with NTFS file system to FAT32, and more.

As of now however, what we are interested in, is creating partition(s).

What is Drive Partition?

Unlike the storage devices in smartphones, the one in a computer can be splitted. For example, if your computer hard drive is 1TB in size, you can split it into 3 or more. 1 for holding Windows 10 and all its built-in application, another for holding all the third-party applications you installed, and a third for holding all your files.

Thus, when you open the My Computer folder, you will see something like Disk C: Disk D: and Disk F: and so on. All these disk or drive are what is called partition.

How to Create Partition

When creating a disk partition for your Windows 10 computer using AOMEI Partition Assistant, you have two options. The first option is creating partition from an unallocated space in your computer’s drive, while the second is creating partition from another partition.

Creating Partition from Unallocated Space

The term unallocated space refers to storage space in your Windows 10 computer storage device that is not yet being assigned to a partition (Disk). In other words, When the space you see in Drive C is not the full space in the Hard drive, then there is an unallocated space.

To be able to use that space, you need to create a partition with it. To do that, follow the steps below.

Step 1:

Download, Install and launch AOMEI Partition Assistant.

Step 2:

From the Home screen, if you see Unallocated Space drive beside or under the Drive C, it means your Computer storage capacity is not being utilize to the full. So, Right-click on it and select Create Partition from the menu.

Step 3:

In the window that will pop-up, AOMEI will automatically specify the Partition Size, Drive Letter, File System (this should be NTFS), the Partition Label and Partition Type. If you are not satisfied with what AOMEI Partition Assistant chose, click the Advanced <<< button to change it. Then click OK to continue.
Note that if you do not assign a Drive Letter, then the partition will be hidden, and thus you will not be able to use it till.
Also, the Partition size you specify should not be more that the size of the unallocated space, else it will not work.

Step 4:

Once you are through with Step 3 and have clicked the OK button, the pop-up window will close and will return you to the home screen of AOMEI Partition Assistant.
Look up to the toolbar, you will see 2 buttons. Click the Apply button to save the newly created partition, or click the Discard button to abort the creation process.

Creating Partition from Existing Partition

While it is possible that there might be an unallocated space in your computer, the fact is, it is rare. And sometimes, if there is, the unallocated space will be too small for you. In this case, you will need to create the new partition from the free space in an already existing partition like the Drive C.

If this is what you want to do, follow the steps below.

Step 1:

Download, Install and launch AOMEI Partition Assistant.

Step 2:

From the Home screen, Right-click on the drive you want to create the partition from, and select Create Partition from the menu.

Step 3:

In the window that will pop-up, AOMEI will automatically specify the Partition Size and Drive Letter for this new partition. You can change it if you wish.
However, to specify the File System (NTFS or FAT32), the Partition Label, Partition Type and other information, click the Advanced <<< button at the button left of the window. When you are through, click OK to continue.
Note that if you do not assign a Drive Letter, then the partition will be hidden, and thus you will not be able to use it.
Also, the Partition size you specify should not be more that the size of the free space in the drive, else it will not work.
