The Windows 10 taskbar is the section at the bottom of the screen, which holds the Start button, search bar, Cortana icon, System tray, and a bunch of all other active programs, which you are currently running in your Windows 10 computer.
The taskbar is so distinctive and pronounced, that it always has a different color no matter the Windows 10 theme that you use. There is no program that you open, that will be able to hide the Taskbar, except of course, if you are viewing the program in full mode.
We can thus liken the Windows 10 taskbar to the notification bar of most smartphones.
The Taskbar Position can be Changed
While we can liken the Taskbar in Windows 10 to the Notification bar in smartphones, it is noteworthy to point out one glaring difference. The position of the Taskbar in Windows 10 can be changed, while the Notification bar in smartphones cannot.
So how do you change the Taskbar position?
Here are the steps:
Step 1: open the Taskbar Settings
There are basically 2 ways to open the settings of the Windows 10 taskbar. The easy way will be to:
Right-click on any empty space in the taskbar and select Taskbar settings from the list of options.

The second way is to, hit the Windows + I button on your keyboard. When the Windows 10 Settings opens, click on Personalization, then Taskbar in the left section.

Step 2: Change the position
Scroll down the right section of the Taskbar settings page till you see Taskbar location on screen.
When you do, click on the option box underneath and select the new position you want to Taskbar to be.
The Taskbar Location on screen options
As you click on the Taskbar location on screen box, you will be presented with 4 options. These are:
Left: The taskbar will appear at the left side of the screen. Spanning from top to bottom.
Top: if you want the Taskbar new position to be at the top of the screen, rather than at the bottom.
Right: The taskbar will now be at the right side of your screen if you choose this option. Spanning from top to bottom.
Bottom: The taskbar will remain where it currently is – at the bottom of the screen. Spanning from left to right.

Other things you can do
In the Taskbar settings, changing the position of the Windows 10 taskbar is not the only thing you will be able to do from there.
There are several other things you can do, like reduce the size of the icons in the taskbar, lock the taskbar, automatically hide the taskbar when in desktop mode or tablet mode, and many others.
So be sure to stick around the Taskbar settings page for long, so that you can familiarize yourself with the Taskbar customization options at your disposal.
